Seven years ago the 56-year-old, who was born in Godstone, became manager of the Westerham office and is now one of Ibbett Mosely’s longest-serving employees.
Ian said: “I am very proud to work for a company with such a good reputation and lucky to be based in an area where there are so many beautiful properties in amazing countryside.”
Alex Mitchel, Head of Residential Sales for Ibbett Mosely added: “Ian has made a remarkable contribution to our company over four decades and become one of the most trusted estate agents in the area. Both customers and staff have nothing but praise for the way he operates. We are very proud of him.”
Since Ian started his career there have been many changes. For instance, the average selling price of a two-bed, mid-terrace house in the Westerham area has risen from £5,000 to around £240,000.
Thanks to improvement in technology, sales particulars, he says, are now presented very differently. “They used to be black and white with just text and no images,” he explained. But the most dramatic change, according to Ian, is the way people behave during the house selling business.
“Forty years ago, once people shook hands the sale was agreed and you didn’t get the gazumping that is common nowadays. There are also so many factors and different people involved these days which makes the process much more complicated,”
One of Ian’s most memorable clients is a family who have returned for his help many times over a period of 30 years to buy and sell property in the area. And the most unusual? A windmill conversion in Edenbridge, Kent.
When he is not running a busy Ibbett Mosely office, Ian is busy donating his spare time to help the local community. He is the Chairman of Oxted & District Football Club, Secretary of the Royal British Legion Oxted and District Club and a member of the Master Park Management Committee.
