June 21, 2011 - PRLog -- Making up 60 per cent of all businesses in the UK, with a turnover of up to £5million, family businesses contribute considerably to our local economy.

Paul Hake, Business Services Partner at Albert Goodman, says, “We are proud to launch the Albert Goodman Family Business Club – the first of its type in the area – which will provide technical and informative updates for family business members aimed at helping their businesses. To mark the launch of the Club, we are delighted that Kit Chapman, owner of The Castle at Taunton who was featured on BBC2 TV show Keep It In the Family, will be telling guests at the launch about his own absorbing family business story.”

The launch of the Club follows the recent announcement that three of the Partners at Albert Goodman have successfully completed the ICFIB (International Centre for Families in Business) Professional Accreditation, which explores family business relationships and behaviours using real tools and skills, qualifying the Partners’ specific knowledge and expertise in dealing with a family business.

Paul Hake comments, “At Albert Goodman we have taken the lead locally in understanding the family business model and the different level of skills and understanding that are required in order to best serve the needs of family businesses. Not only are we able to give first-rate accounting, tax and business advice but we are also able to advise family businesses on managing family involvement and ownership, creating family constitutions and governance, preserving family wealth, remuneration, succession planning, mediation and conflict resolution.”

Increasingly, family businesses are seeking specialist advisors who understand the differences and complexities of being a family in business. Family businesses differ mainly as a result of the relationships between family members.  This could involve several generations, extended family, ex-partners, siblings and spouses, often leading to several owners, managers and decision-makers with very different goals, values and requirements of the business.

Family businesses in the local area will now be able to benefit from the specialist advice available at Albert Goodman and the support of the Family Business Club. Albert Goodman has a highly qualified team of family business and finance specialists who are available to provide further guidance and advice.
