June 20, 2011 - PRLog -- Having a child with Special Needs can be demanding and sometimes overwhelming.  These children are special and want to showcase their abilities the same as other children.  The same as being an adult with Special Needs can provide its own set of obstacles and challenges.  Enter B’More Abilities Special Arts Center.  BASAC has accepted the challenge and become Maryland’s first and only Dance Studio dedicated to the Special Needs Community.  Through BASAC, individuals with Special Needs are able to learn and showcase their talents in an atmosphere that is non-judgmental and conducive to the needs of its participants.

In an effort to bring greater attention to and highlight the Special needs community, BASAC along with Diagnosis Dance Community, Make Studio & W.E.A.N (Women Embracing Abilities Now) announce “Mission Possible” a summer dance recital to be held on Sunday, July, 10, 2011 beginning at 2:00 PM at Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts located 8100 Wise Ave. Dundalk, MD 21222. “Mission Possible” will provide its audience with a Sensory friendly, comfortable and judgment free zone that is welcoming to all families.  Throughout the performance, the house lights will remain dim, sound volume will remain low and consistent and children will be able to speak freely and leave their seats as necessary under parental supervision.

In advance of “Mission Possible”, BASAC & The Image Center for People with Disabilities will host a talent search on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at the Image Center located 300 E. Joppa Rd. Suite 302, Towson, MD 21286 at 2:00 PM.  This talent search will be for all of the Arts inclusive but not limited to Dance, Music, Poetry, Visual Arts & Theatre.  The winner of the talent search will have the opportunity to showcase their talent in the “Mission Possible” summer recital on July 10.

According to BASAC Owner & Founder Zoey Robinson-Budreski, “BASAC was developed out of a great need to provide ones with disabilities the chance to use art as an empowerment, career, or joy and this event is a chance to showcase the many abilities that are often times overlooked because of stigmas.”
