June 20, 2011 - PRLog -- As part of ongoing research into the beauty regimes of British women, the UK’s leading discount website has conducted a study of 1,271 women aged 18 and over, in a bid to discover how they maintain their beauty regimes.

Initially, respondents to the study were asked ‘Do you attempt to maintain your beauty regime by using DIY products/ treatments?’ to which the majority, 78%, answered ‘yes’. When these respondents were asked why they did so, the majority, 67%, explained that they do so to 'save money; whilst 31% said it was to 'save themselves time.'

Furthermore, the study, conducted by www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, asked the women taking part who admitted to using DIY products/ treatments what DIY regimes they regularly did themselves, rather than going to a professional. The top five results were as follows:

1) Manicure/ Pedicure- 73%
2) Dye own hair- 61%
3) Fake Tan- 56%
4) Wax themselves- 48%
5) Cut own hair- 34%

Furthermore, just over a fifth, 22%, of these women admitted to 'making their own face/ body masks' using products at home.

When asked if they'd ever had a bad experience using a DIY beauty product/ treatment, over half, 55%, of the women taking part answered 'yes.' The most popular 'bad experience' amongst respondents was 'allergic reaction to product', with 46% of women claiming this had happened to them; whereas 32% admitted that they had 'burned/ torn skin using hair removal products.'

Mark Pearson, Chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, said the following about the findings:

“It is great to see that so many women are looking into new ways to save themselves money. I am sure that maintaining things such as hair, nails and skin can add up, and women can end up spending a small fortune each month on maintaining their beauty regime. DIY products and treatments can really save you money in the long run- so long as you follow instructions properly, and know what you're doing!

He continued:

“Perhaps, as a treat, once a month women could treat themselves to a little bit of a pamper; as there are some aspects to beauty regimes, such as cutting hair, that should be left to the professionals. If this is something that sounds appealing I would suggest visiting sites such as MyVoucherCodes.co.uk to save on the expenses involved.”
