Nick Sandqvist of The Green Indoor Mini Golf said: “The Green Indoor Mini Golf is delighted to have been allocated the 2011 BMGA British Championship and look forward to welcoming the cream of British minigolf to our course. Here at The Green we are dedicated to raising the profile of minigolf as a sport in the UK, and to bringing it to a larger audience. We believe that, through information and media coverage, the sport has every chance of taking off in the UK, and that in a few years time we should be able to compete with the strongest nations on the continent. As well as hosting some of the biggest competitions in the country, we always welcome the public to The Green. Even those who have never played before will get a good insight into the competitive side of minigolf through our displays and feature films. The BMGA British Championships should make for a thrilling competition, and spectators are more than welcome to come and take in the atmosphere. We would like to wish all players good luck for the competition, and hope to see a new course record achieved during the weekend.”
Sean Homer, Chairman BMGA said: “The Green Minigolf course has become a popular course with the players on the tour since it opened in 2010 and having hosted a number of events over the past twelve months I am delighted that we are playing the first Major of the year, the BMGA British Championships, at the course. The Green is a great challenge in terms of skill, accuracy, technique and nerve and makes an excellent venue for one of the elite events on the BMGA tour. Nick Sandqvist, the course builder and owner, has been a strong and active supporter of our organisation since arriving on the scene last year and is always keen to promote minigolf to as wide an audience as possible – the fact that we are able to echo that support by bringing the BMGA British Championships to his course is a fitting refection of the importance of the Green to the development of the game in the UK. The course is very different to any of the other courses we play on the tour, and has proven to be a great training area for players keen to really develop their skills – certainly the members of the Great Britain team who have just returned from a successful trip playing in the WMF Nations Cup in Stockholm have seen their game improve significantly thanks to the challenges and demands of the course. The event promises to be a great showpiece for minigolf in the UK and with all of the top players in attendance it should be a classic battle throughout the weekend.”
Since opening in January 2010 The Green Indoor Mini Golf has hosted the BMGA British Club Championships, London Open and Green Open minigolf competitions.
