Top 5 List of Ways Historic Preservation Can Save the Day!

Boulder, Colorado, June 16, 2011: Adventures in Preservation is dedicated to getting people involved in preserving valuable historic architecture. In the current economic climate and with global warming issues in the forefront, both the public at large and professional planners can take advantage of the Top 5 List of Ways Historic Preservation Can Save the Day.

Top 5 List of Ways Historic Preservation Can Save the Day -

1.   Cultural heritage is one of the top draws for tourism dollars.
2.   Preservation is a “green” practice that keeps valuable building materials in use and out of the landfill.
3.   Historic preservation creates new jobs in traditional building trades, sustainable development, and tourism.
4.   Hands-on preservation projects provide job skills training and on-site job experience.
5.   Cultural heritage may be the only resource a community has to support sustainable economic development.

Adventures in Preservation (AiP) takes advantage of this Top 5 List in creating projects that bring the maximum benefit to their project communities. Project volunteers work alongside community members to save historic buildings for use as affordable housing, community centers, office space, and to creatively address other community needs.

The fact that AiP receives requests for assistance from around the world confirms that this list is understood and embraced by community planners in many countries. AiP volunteers act on these facts whether working to raise the standard of living in the World Heritage Site of Gjirokastra, Albania or saving a piece of history for community use in the remarkable historic town of New Castle, Delaware.

Adventures in Preservation is a non-profit organization that supports community-based heritage preservation projects. AiP’s hands-on volunteer vacations give participants the opportunity to travel worldwide, learn new historic preservation skills, and work with residents to renew their community. Learn more about how AiP volunteers use the power of preservation to make a difference at www.adventuresinpreservation.org.
