June 16, 2011 - PRLog -- Springfield, OH –  On May 6, 2011 the McGregor Metalworking Companies metalworking training program received re-accreditation by the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS).  Located in Fairfax, VA, NIMS is the nation’s only ANSI accredited developer of precision manufacturing skill standards and competency assessments (www.nims-skills.org).  Additionally, NIMS certifies individual skills against standards and accredits programs that meet its quality requirements. NIMS stakeholders represent over 6,000 American companies.

Stephen Mandes, Executive Director of NIMS stated “This re-accreditation is the result of a rigorous examination determining that McGregor’s program meets the quality standards as established by NIMS on behalf of the nation’s precision manufacturing industry.  We are also delighted to note that more than 30 employees of the McGregor Metalworking Companies hold NIMS credentials.”

First accredited in 1998, the McGregor Metalworking Companies has worked tirelessly to develop and enhance its metalworking trades training processes enhancing both the skills of its associates and the performance of the company.  “We are currently working on many aspects of our associate development as there is a direct correlation between a skilled workforce and competitive position in the marketplace” commented Dane Belden, President of McGregor Metalworking Companies.

Darlene Carpenter, Director of Human Resources for McGregor adds “Our program allows for participants to earn a higher wage and also to take a more responsible role in our companies.  As our associates progress through the pathways they have more control of the process and become competent in a wider array of functions in our facilities.”  These job “pathways” also offer something unique that other companies don’t – college credits.  Forty credit hours are awarded to graduates of McGregor’s “Pay for Skills” program to be used towards an Associate of Technical Studies (ATS) Certificate or Degree in Manufacturing Operations at Clark State Community College.
