June 16, 2011 - PRLog -- Baryonyx Corp. has over 67,000 acres of submerged lands under lease from the Texas General Land Office across three sites between Corpus Christi and Brownsville, and if fully developed these sites could have an installed capacity of up to 3GW.

Commenting on the submission, CEO of Baryonyx Corporation Ian Hatton said ‘We regard this as a significant first step towards realizing the development of offshore wind off the coast of Texas and we will coordinate closely with The Corps, and the statutory agencies, through the permitting process. Offshore wind represents a tremendous opportunity for Texas to bring its long history of offshore engineering, design, fabrication and installation to bear on the nascent offshore wind industry.’

He went on to say ‘We would like to acknowledge the tremendous support we have received from Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson and his staff at the General Land Office. It is heartening, in these difficult times, to point out the significant contribution that revenues from any potential development will have on the Texas Permanent School Fund in the future. These developments represent an opportunity for Texas to demonstrate, once again, its role as the Nation’s premier power State.’

Baryonyx is a Texas registered Corporation that is based in Austin and its senior management team has a long history of involvement in offshore projects. They were recently responsible for delivering the innovative Ormonde Offshore Wind Farm through to Financial Close in the UK. Ormonde was the first commercial deployment of 5MW turbines in the UK waters and the first to use jacket-type structures more usually associated with the Oil and Gas industry. The team now has its eyes firmly focused on bringing that success to the US.

Following receipt of the Application the project goes out on Public Notice and The Corps in Galveston will be the primary point of contact for comment and information.
