Follow on Google News | Free Childcare for Struggling ParentsQuality day care for children should be a right in this country- but far too often it is a luxury only reserved for the privileged. One woman is on a mission to change that in hopes that other institutions will follow suit.
By: Natasha Huang She recently won the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award and made the Inc. 5000 list as one of the fastest growing private companies in the US. In the many years Stella has been active in the education community, she has seen the families in her schools struggle with finances, time management, and the ability to maintain the life that they worked so hard to achieve. Families that thrived financially ten years ago have gone from two income to one, and sadly, many times, none. Stella explains, “I have this amazing job of taking care of American children and after 30 years it is time to give back…America has always been about courage and perseverance. Even in these tough economic times, the American spirit is alive and well in each of us. People need to be reminded that anything is possible in this great country of ours.” Stella Moga Kennedy is that reminder. She has given over $500,000 in free daycare to unemployed parents and struggling middle class families-and will continue to do so to ensure that children are given the opportunity to lay down the proper foundations of educational growth. Life throws many unexpected financial curveballs and Stella has no intention on letting a child’s education get thrown under the rug. Stella goes on to say. “If you are an unemployed parent going out on job interviews and job fairs, please come to me, free of charge, and I can promise you that your children will be well taken care of.” Many who hear of this offer are shocked to hear such unselfish kindness coming from a stranger. Stella replies with “How can you charge someone who doesn’t have a job?” In addition, there have been those families who have had to deal with other financial and personal issues such as unexpected medical bills, layoffs and divorce. Without wanting the kids to be affected by such adult problems, Stella has allowed many families to continue their child's education at her schools, free of charge. Stella says, "America has given so much to me. The least I can do is give back to the future of America". All of Stella’s schools located throughout Ohio, have small teacher to student ratios, where children are separated into small groups by age and aptitude. Foreign language and ballet are only some of the included education at Le Chaperon Rouge. All of the school's facilities feature commercial kitchens with full time chefs that provide children with nutritious and healthy cooked meals- without the additive of high fructose corn syrup. Le Chaperon Rouge prepares children for a competitive future academically, emotionally, and socially at a price significantly lower than other day care chains.
