June 15, 2011 - PRLog -- BOSTON (June 15, 2011) – The first McGladrey Foundation Charity Golf Event raised more than $150,000 to benefit Special Olympics Massachusetts, Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston and the McGladrey Foundation, McGladrey announced today. The inaugural event was held on June 13, 2011 at The International Golf Club & Resort in Bolton, Mass.

“We are thrilled to have hosted such a successful event that gives back to charitable organizations right here in our local communities,” said Richard Caturano, McGladrey office managing partner for New England. “We are proud to support Special Olympics Massachusetts and Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston, and thank our clients, colleagues and everyone who helped us raise so much for these great causes. The First Annual 2011 McGladrey Foundation Charity Golf was a huge hit, and we look forward to continuing with this event year after year.”

The McGladrey Foundation Charity Golf Event was filled with activities throughout the day, including a golf clinic lead by LPGA and PGA TOUR players Natalie Gulbis and Chris DiMarco who spent time teaching children involved with Special Olympics Massachusetts the ins and outs of the game.

Other special guests included Special Olympics athletes including Tyler Lagasse, the New England Patriots Cheerleaders and Massachusetts celebrity chefs Evan Deluty of Stella, Dante deMagistris of Dante and Il Casale, and Rob Picardi of Prezza. More than 150 golfers and others guests participated in the event, including Executive Director of the Charlestown Boys & Girls Club Greg Jackson and Robert Johnson, the president and CEO of Special Olympics Massachusetts.

Money raised will help support Special Olympics Massachusetts and its year-round sports training, athletic competition and other related programming for more than 12,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities. Funds will also assist Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston and its arts, education, leadership, life skills, sports, fitness, recreation and technology core initiatives that service approximately 14,000 children and teens, ages 6 to 18. In addition, community-based projects and charitable organizations in the New England area will benefit from money contributed to the employee-managed McGladrey Foundation.
