Camp Oakes, sponsored by the Simi Valley Family YMCA, will take place in Big Bear. The camp is for kids in grades 4 through 12 and features talent shows, dances, educational activities, horseback riding, arts and crafts, nature exploration, canoeing, volleyball, archery, swimming, campfires and a night observatory. The cost is $440. An information night will be held June 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the Simi Y (3200 Cochran Street).
Camp Fox, sponsored by the Triunfo YMCA (serving Westlake Village, Oak Park and Agoura Hills) will be held on Catalina Island July 3 through 9 for campers in grades 6 through 12. Campers will kayak, snorkel, fish and take part in archery, high and low rope challenges, swimming, hiking, campfires and outdoor education programs. The cost is $565. An information meeting will be held June 22 at 6:30 p.m. at Willow Elementary School (29026 Laro Dr., Agoura Hills).
Camp Oakhurst, sponsored by the Conejo Valley YMCA (serving Thousand Oaks, Moorpark and Santa Rosa Valley), will be held July 30 through August 6. Located near Yosemite, the camp offers beautiful scenery and an old-fashioned outdoors camping experience. Campers in grades 4 through 10 (11th graders can serve as Counselors in Training) will enjoy such activities as swimming, wall climbing, rope courses, archery, mountain bike riding, outdoor education, arts and crafts and campfires. The cost is $460.
Each camp is open to all young people, regardless of the sponsoring Y branch. Costs include lodging, meals and transportation.
