SGS and ENVIRON launch exclusive webinar on RoHS2 challenges and solutions, June 28, 2011

New Member State RoHS2 Regulations will take effect in 18 months time. But many companies are not aware of the new RoHS2 scope, the obligations of distributors and sample testing requirements.

June 15, 2011 - PRLog -- The new European Union RoHS Directive (known as RoHS2) will become EU law when it is published in the Official Journal of the European Community (OJEU) in June 2011, and the new Member State RoHS2 Regulations will take effect 18 months later. There are some well-known differences: inclusion of Category 8 medical devices and Category 9 monitoring and control instruments, a new Category 11, which captures all other ‘grey area’ electrical equipment, and new CE Marking requirements. However, many companies are not aware of the new RoHS2 scope, the obligations of distributors and sample testing requirements.

SGS (www.sgs.com), the global leader in chemical testing and certification services with many years of experience engaged in IEC and IECEE working groups on restricted substances and ENVIRON, a leading international environmental consultancy, which co-chairs the IPC 1752A International Standard on Materials Declaration Management and manages the industry-led substances declarations web database www.BOMcheck.net, will provide a free webinar to explain the new requirements in detail.

The webinar – entitled “RoHS2 challenges and solutions” – will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 from 4.00 to 5.00 pm Central European Time (10.00 to 11.00 am Eastern Time). It will explain the impact of the new RoHS2 scope, which applies to all products that are dependent on electrical power to fulfil at least one intended function. It will highlight the new legal obligations for distributors that apply immediately as soon as the new Member State RoH2 Regulations take effect – there is no phase-in period to take account of existing stocks of a distributor.  The webinar will also explain the impact of the RoHS2 requirements for the Manufacturer’s CE Marking, where technical documentation must include test reports wherever applicable. The webinar will highlight the compliance challenges and provide best practice recommendations on how to implement supply chain management solutions.

The key issues covered during the webinar:
•   RoHS2 timelines, scope and new exemptions policy
•   CE Marking: New RoHS2 compliance requirements for manufacturers, importers and distributors
•   Practical compliance management for RoHS2: Why manufacturers need to rethink their product compliance strategy
•   Market surveillance for RoHS
•   Test strategies for RoHS restricted substances to satisfy the new requirements
•   Questions and answers

Free registration for the webinar is available at www1.gotomeeting.com/register/313670225
