June 14, 2011 - PRLog -- MAHWAH, New Jersey – RAD Data Communications has unveiled the new Airmux-5000 carrier-class point-to-multipoint Ethernet radio system, a wireless solution for business access users demanding high-capacity throughput with guaranteed bandwidth according to Service Level Agreements (SLAs) per subscriber.

The Airmux-5000 overcomes the limitations of WiMAX and WiFi, which are designed for mass market residential subscribers. WiMAX, for example, is required to be transmitted over a licensed band, while WiFi does not guarantee Quality of Service (QoS) or SLAs. Proprietary pre-WiMAX solutions are intended for business and high-end residential applications and include basic QoS, but do not provide high bandwidth or guarantee SLAs.

With its 200 Mbps of aggregate throughput over unlicensed links, coupled with an ability to supply a guaranteed bandwidth SLA per subscriber, the Airmux-5000 offers a unique solution for the enterprise market.

“The Airmux-5000 is an ideal solution for carriers and ISPs targeting first mile enterprise connectivity, as well as private networks looking to deploy broadband and mission critical applications,” states Meira Erez, Airmux Product Manager at RAD Data Communications.

“The device also responds perfectly to the high aggregate bandwidth requirements of private networks requiring high-capacity inter-branch connectivity, such as university campuses, healthcare organizations, governmental institutions, large enterprises, and public establishments. In addition, the Airmux-5000 is a highly attractive solution for security and surveillance applications in which traffic is aggregated and backhauled from multiple co-located high-definition cameras.”

The Airmux-5000 delivers optimal performance and unmatched robustness in all environments based on advanced technologies such as MIMO, which employs multiple antennas to double the channel capacity, and OFDM, which ensures nLOS (non-line-of-sight and near-line-of-sight) deployment.

Delivering the highest spectrum efficiency available in the market, the Airmux-5000 transmits more throughput over less channel bandwidth. High spectrum efficiency results in additional network revenue and performance, reduces fees when spectrum is licensed and increases flexibility in frequency planning and channel selection.

A single Airmux-5000 base station supports up to 16 remote Subscriber Units (SUs) with multiband operation over 4.9 to 6 GHz frequencies. It offers high throughput, guaranteed bandwidth, robust performance, and low latency under sector load. RAD provides a novel approach that prevents an SU suffering from inferior transmission performance from negatively impacting available capacity of other SUs that share the same sector.

With a range of up to 40 kilometers (25 miles), the Airmux-5000 features a small form factor outdoor unit that saves valuable tower space. Installation is simple and cost-effective.The Airmux-5000 can coexist seamlessly with RAD’s Airmux-200 and Airmux-400 broadband wireless radios. The RADview-EMS SNMP fault management application provides an easy-to-use tool for deploying and managing multiple links from a central platform.
