Perkins informed the Rotary club members of the risks of identity theft and offered practical advice on how to protect their businesses from this and other forms of fraud.

Identity theft is commonly thought of as a crime that primarily targets individual victims, but businesses may be targeted as well. For this reason, it is essential that businesses make a point of protecting their own company information as well as client information. Perkins recommended that business owners evaluate what personal information the company is holding and only keep what is necessary. To keep information secure, Perkins advised that businesses protect laptops and access to company computers, keep important company information locked away, and shred any unneeded information.
