June 14, 2011 - PRLog -- In total, 57 US colleges and universities recognise and accept Cambridge Pre-U - including leading universities such as MIT and Stanford - and many more are in the process of reviewing how to award college credit for Cambridge Pre-U qualifications.

In a statement, Yale University said: "We would be pleased to consider applications from students with Cambridge Pre-U examination results according to their merits, as is the case with A Level applicants. On the basis of high scores in the Principal Subjects, students may be placed in advanced courses in some subjects in the freshman year."

We are working hard to extend recognition of Cambridge Pre-U, a new post-16 qualification currently being taught in 142 UK schools. An alternative to UK A Level, Cambridge Pre-U equips students with the skills they need to succeed at university. It is accepted by UK universities.

Widening recognition of Cambridge Pre-U GPR in US

Nine US universities have also given statements recognising the value of Cambridge Pre-U Global Perspectives and Research (GPR), a cross-curricular qualification that develops students' independent study skills and ability to think critically on a wide range of global issues.

In their recognition statement, Duke University said they welcome students who hold Cambridge Pre-U GPR:  "GPR puts an emphasis on a number of the skills that students need in order to be successful in their university education. We particularly value the independence of thought, critical thinking and research and inquiry skills that GPR develops. Although the university does not currently assign academic or placement credit for this course, we believe that it is a promising addition to the courses of study that prepare students well for post-secondary education, and would consider it an appropriate part of a rigorous and challenging curriculum."

Cambridge Pre-U GPR belongs to our suite of Global Perspectives qualifications - also available at Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge International AS Level - and is the only Cambridge Pre-U qualification currently available to schools outside the UK. In June 2010, we had entries for Cambridge Pre-U GPR from schools in countries as diverse as the USA, New Zealand, India, Kenya, Malaysia and Pakistan.
