Funky Monkeys Participating in Powerhouse Project

June 14, 2011 - PRLog -- Funky Monkeys is excited to announce their participation in the Powerhouse Project. “The PowerHouse Project” (PHP) prepares college-bound young women for total career and life success.  The program runs from June to July 2011 and partners each of the young women with a female business leader.  TQF has partnered with High Point Central High school, whose faculty and staff has nominated special young ladies who excel in their academia. The PowerHouse Project, which is a program of The Queen’s Foundation, Inc. has been offered to 13 young women of High Point Central High School and will include, six weeks of “internship-like” experience, Saturday morning civic engagements, and an intense six-day leadership training week.

Elizabeth Burton, owner of Funky Monkeys,says, "Having the opportunity to partner with The Queen's Foundation to mentor a young lady who is on her path to great things is an honor.  I look forward to hearing what my mentee wants to accomplish, what she wants to learn and what she's not expecting!  This opportunity to assist a young lady with her dreams along with much hard work and fun will be a wonderful experience for us both."

Funky Monkeys home decor and accessories boutique was founded in March 2011.  After spending 15 years in transportation management, Mrs. Burton decided it was time for a change.  A change that would do something good for the environment as well as educate the public about the environment they live in in a new, funky fun way.  It's not a matter of getting rid of all you own, it's a matter of looking at things in a new light, Mrs. Burton says.

Each customer that walks in the door of Funky Monkeys walks into an experience.  Whether they purchase a piece or not, the smiles on their faces and the comments heard mean more than anything.  "It's a visual treat"; This place is fun and bright!"; "Whenever I come to visit it always makes me feel better" are all comments that Mrs. Burton hears on a regular basis. "That's what this is all really about," she says.
