Congressman Gosar and Former U.S. Attorney Humetewa Address CollegeAmerica Class of 2011

Graduating class is largest in Flagstaff campus’ history

PRLog - Jun. 13, 2011 - FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Graduates from CollegeAmerica Flagstaff took one more step toward successful careers and meeting their life goals when they accepted their diplomas on Saturday, June 4 at the du Bois Center. The class of 2011, at 115 graduates, is the largest the Flagstaff campus has ever seen. The program commenced with special keynote speeches from Congressman Paul Gosar and former U.S. Attorney Diane Humetewa, the first Native American woman to hold the position in Arizona.

“At a time of uncertainty for our nation’s economy and our children’s future, it is so inspiring to be here today. Here before me, I see a group of diverse, vibrant people who have undertaken a vigorous effort to equip themselves with an invaluable tool: continued education,” said Congressman Gosar in his remarks to the graduates.

The graduates earned degrees in computer technology and networking, medical specialties, and health care administration. This was the first year the campus had graduates who earned their Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration. The campus began offering the program in January 2009.

Campus Director Suzanne Scales also spoke, talking about the challenges the class had overcome. Ms. Scales spoke to her graduates about the strength gained from adversity and how the challenges they overcame while earning their degrees have helped them become more competitive individuals.

One of the graduates is twenty-two-year-old Brandon Henderson, who earned an Associate of Occupational Studies degree in Medical Specialties. After being laid off from his previous job, Henderson wanted to pursue his dream of entering the medical field. He chose CollegeAmerica Flagstaff because of the pace and convenience of the classes.

“My teachers helped me through the tough times and helped me excel,” said Henderson. “I gained a new beginning to life, a sense of purpose, and friends.”

Henderson is currently working at Flagstaff Medical Center as a pharmacy technician, where he was hired after completing his externship. He hopes to go back to school in the near future to further his career in the medical field.

The ceremony also highlighted staff member Cathy Romeo. Ms. Romeo is an associate professor at the campus and was honored with a medal for her nine years of service to the school.

A new class of future graduates will enroll in their degree programs beginning June 20 and July 18. For more information about CollegeAmerica and the degree programs it offers, visit www.collegeamerica.edu.
