June 12, 2011 - PRLog -- Autumn Regatta – 17 and 18 September 2011

The opening regatta of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club’s 2011-2012 sailing season is set in the iconic Victoria Harbour, a prime venue for yacht racing in Hong Kong since the first harbour regatta was held in 1849.  Featuring three races over two days, the RHKYC Autumn Regatta is open to entrants from all of Hong Kong's sailing clubs, with over 100 keelboats expected to compete in eleven classes.

China Coast Regatta – 14 to 16 October 2011

Hong Kong’s premier big boat regatta.  Three days of racing, typically in a 15 to 20kt nor’easterly breeze on a rolling sea, will offer combinations of Windward/Leeward and Islands courses out of RHKYC’s Middle Island base.  Around 50 local and international entries in eight Divisions ranging in size from 26 foot J/80s to custom-built 75 footers are anticipated to take part.  Expect some electrifying sailing.

VinaCapital HK to Vietnam Race – 19 to 23 October 2011

Originally scheduled to take place in October 2010 but postponed due to the forecasted impact of Super Typhoon Megi, this 656nm fast passage race to Nha Trang, on the south eastern coast of Vietnam has been sponsored since 2004 by Vietnam investments and real estate company, VinaCapital.  This is the longest Asian Category One Offshore Race and the current race record is held by Grant Wharington’s “Skandia Wild Thing” in 42h 45m 41s at an average speed of 15.45 knots. In addition Nha Trang is a great jumping-off point for boats intending to continue on to other seasonal sailing events in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Australia.  Described as “one of the great Ocean races” and “one of the best offshore warm water events in the world”, the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club is looking forward to attracting a strong local and international entry list.

China Cup – 28 to 31 October 2011

The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club will again be providing the on-the-water race management for this regatta at Longcheer Yacht Club outside Shenzhen.  As in previous years, there will be a passage race from Hong Kong up to Longcheer followed by three days of racing in and around Daya Bay on the Mainland.

Lipton Trophy – 19 November 2011

The Lipton Trophy is a pursuit race, which is different to normal yacht racing. Competitors are given staggered start times under RHKATI handicap, ie. the slowest boats start first and then the faster boats set off in pursuit with the time delay between classes of boats being determined from their handicaps. If all boats are sailed equally well, they should (in theory) all finish at the same time.  There are three pursuit races in the sailing calendar that make up the Top Dog Trophy Series which is very popular and attracts Hong Kong’s finest sailors.

Zoke Around the Island Race – 20 November 2011

Zoke returns as sponsor for Hong Kong’s biggest yacht race of the year that will see over 200 boats and 1,400 crew racing around Hong Kong Island.  The race is always a great spectacle and one of the few times that yachts are given permission to race in the Western harbour.

Pedro Blanco Race 2011 – 3 and 4 December 2011

This Offshore Special Regulations Category 3 race is an overnight race around Pedro Blanco Rock, which lies to the east of Hong Kong.  The race starts and finishes in Hong Kong and is around 100nm in length.   The Race is open to all monohull boats of the IRC Cruiser class.
