June 11, 2011 - PRLog -- Perth based marketing agency Volpa, one of Britain’s Top 100 Most Awarded Agencies, is launching a Social Media Summer Camp for businesses interested in developing their social networking strategies.

The camp, delivered in conjunction with Perthshire Chamber of Commerce, will run on a Wednesday evening over four consecutive weeks in July, will be delivered by entrepreneur and agency founder Tricia Fox, a self confessed social networking geek and a renowned expert in networking.

Drawing on real life case studies, Fox has worked with some of the area’s leading events and businesses to set up and develop their social media presence online including Etape Caledonia, The Enchanted Forest, Flybox and St John’s Shopping Centre.

Tricia commented, “Two years ago clients were asking us why they needed to bother with social media and we answered: Quite simply, you wouldn’t operate your business without a telephone, why wouldn’t you want to communicate with your customers on the world’s biggest communication platforms?”

“The world’s appetite for social media has grown, but businesses have been comparatively slow to catch on that their customers are spending several hours a day glued to their social network of choice. Social media marketing is now a critical component in any firm’s marketing mix. It’s all very well going to courses on how to set up a Facebook page for your business but if you have no idea how to use and develop that page, then it was a complete waste of time.” She continued.

“The Social Media Summer Camp approaches it entirely from the marketing perspective – we show people the basics and will help them get set up if they aren’t already on the key social networks, but we move on quickly to marketing strategy and how to integrate social media within your existing marketing mix to deliver solid marketing returns ” she said.

For those businesses who remain doubtful about the impact of social networking on the bottom line, Fox points towards a case study with Perth based online retailer Flybox.co.uk. The retailer ran a Facebook promotion in January 2011 lasting eleven days, which delivered an immediate increase of Facebook followers over the same period by 117%. Flybox's Facebook post views increased from 3,400 to in excess of 44,000during the campaign, a 1194% jump, and sales turnover rose 53.8% in comparison to the same eleven day period in 2010.
