London – June 10, 2011 - Used by over 500,000 students worlwide just a year after launch, Open Source learning management system (LMS / VLE) Chamilo was just released in version 1.8.8, introducing a whole lot of innovative features for this all-in-one and free e-learning package.

New features of the Open Source VLE Chamilo include:

Navigation
Improved breadcrumb navigation allowing intuitive navigation inside the platform
Improved navigation and menu icons, allowing for visually impaired users
Improved navigation on smartphones, android phones, iphones and ipads

Authoring tools
Integration of Pixlr as an image editing tool inside the platform
Integration of Nanogong Voice recording features
Integration of text to speech functionalities: Google Speech and Pediaphon
New file upload functionalities, including drag and drop features
Thumbnail views for images galleries
PDF export feature for documents and courses and SCORM learning path
File bookmarking functionalities

New tests options
Links to theory in SCORM path can now be added depending on students results in a test
Certificates are now fully functional and can be delivered in the assessment tool

Reporting
New series of graphs available to follow the evolution of students

Improved course catalog
Now showing number of visits and students per course, a pop-up description, and a customizable thumbnail

Video conference
New Big Blue Button plug-in for easy installation of a video conference server

Administration features
"Classes" of students can now be created, allowing easy registration of groups of students to several courses

"Promotions" can be added and followed throughout the years, allowing entire classes to be automatically registered to groups of courses year after year

New user level
An "Assistant student" can now be created to assist tutors inside a course

Back office
Several security improvements
Optimization tips have been added to the documentation for mission-critical portals
