Follow on Google News | Local Derby Between San Diego Boca FC and SD Flash with Playoff ImplicationsSan Diego Boca FC hosts North County Rival SD Flash Saturday 7:00 p.m. at Balboa Stadium
By: San Diego Boca FC Earlier this season in April, the teams met in an away game at Flash’s field with the match a dead-even battle until the final minute. Just before the ref’s whistle, an opportunitistic bounce in front of net gave the Flash a 2-1 victory and only further stoked the flames of rivalry between the two sides. Boca is coming into the match with a two-game unbeaten streak with a tie this past weekend against last years 2010 NPSL Champion Sacramento with a 2-2 draw on the road. San Diego Boca FC Head Coach Papo Santos stated, “We are excited about the game this weekend against the Flash at our house as it’s a key match for us for two reasons. It’s a playoff game in terms of needing points and it’s a local rivalry which the fans always get behind. We did not feel like we deserved a loss in the last match at their place letting up a goal in injury time so this will be an opportunity to settle matters. The boys are ready as we have been playing well the past few weeks. The added additions of several new players to the roster including Ze Roberto, Abiel Coronado, and Panchito have added some spice to our game. I think the fans are going to see a very good battle on Saturday night with both teams fighting for pride. We expect a big crowd.” The San Diego Derby is a special event for another reason, however, as Boca FC will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County. The organization has been supporting the youths of San Diego for half a century, and will be encouraging fans to donate and volunteer to their incredible and extremely important cause. The event will also host multiple gourmet food trucks, including the Mangia Mangia Mobile, Panda Express, India On Wheels and Super Q BBQ. The battle between Boca and Flash is shaping up to be the Premier San Diego Soccer Match of 2011. Tickets can still be purchased for only $5 at the Boca Soccer Store, located at 1919 San Diego avenue, San Diego, CA, just south of Old Town.
