June 9, 2011 - PRLog -- Bloom Studio, Inc. (http://bloom.io/), the visual discovery application company and makers of the critically acclaimed iPad™ app Planetary, today announced a round of seed funding led by O’Reilly Alpha Tech Ventures (OATV) with participation from Launch Capital. OATV and Launch Capital join existing investors Betaworks, SV Angel, Stewart Butterfield and others.

The money will be used to hire game graphics and mobile application specialists to help define and build the company’s next generation of applications that present dynamic social networking, streaming media, and location data in graphically rich, playful real time experiences.

“We are currently experiencing an incredible shift in the way we understand and interact with data,” said Ben Cerveny, president and founder of Bloom Studio. “With the popularity of tablets like the iPad, we see a great opportunity for Bloom to help shape this shift in data consumption. This funding allows us to continue improving projects like our debut iPad app Planetary and begin to develop new ones at the same time. We are looking to double our headcount with creative coders equipped with strong design and data backgrounds.” Qualified candidates are invited to apply directly to jobs@bloom.io.

“While others busy themselves shoehorning web content into these new form factors, Bloom is actively inventing the data models, visualization metaphors and gesture interactions that will define the post PC era,” said OATV’s General Partner, Bryce Roberts, who also joins the Bloom Studio board of directors.

Bloom Studio is headquartered in the Mid-Market neighborhood of San Francisco.
