Needham Bank donates $5,000 to help send Town of Dedham delegation to All-America City Award

June 8, 2011 - PRLog -- Needham Bank, with five branches throughout the greater Boston area, has donated $5,000 to the Town of Dedham to help offset the cost of sending a delegation of community members to Kansas City, MO June 15-17 where Dedham will compete with 25 other finalists from throughout the country for the All-America City Award.

Dedham has distinguished itself as the only New England community named this year as a finalist for the coveted national award.

A community delegation will speak at the three-day event, briefly sharing stories of the town’s successful changes to a national jury of business, nonprofit and local government experts.  The presentation before the jury will focus on three town projects; the Dedham Municipal Building Energy Water/Retrofits and the Sustainability Advisory Committee; the Dedham Youth Commission Improvement Project; and the Dedham Youth Commission sponsored Holiday Gift Program.

Needham Bank’s donation of $5,000 will help fund travel expenses of the Dedham delegation; among those traveling to Kansas City to participate in the All-America City Award competition will be members from the Dedham Youth Commission and the Dedham High School Band.  Youth Commission members will drive to the event, stopping along the way to volunteer at a soup kitchen, shelter for families and senior center.

Founded by the National Civic League in 1949, the All-America City award nationally recognizes outstanding civic achievement and is often referred to as the “Oscars” of municipalities.
