CSU Dominguez Hills Orchestra and West Covina Symphony Proudly present "Young Artists Extravaganza"

Joining forces, CSU Dominguez Hills and the West Covina Symphony, under the direction of Dr. Sylvia Lee Mann, are pleased to present one of the years most extraordinary programs. CSUDH Music Department chair Richard Kravchak is "delighted" that the groups are working hand in hand to present this amazing program.

This program features 7 fantastic young musical powerhouses - ages 8 - 17, performing the world's musical masterworks.

These are the winners of our 2011 Young Artists Competition, performing the music of Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Rossini, Bloch, Vivaldi, Dvorak, De Beriot and Sarasate

Hear the energetic and enduring "Overture to the Barber of Seville", by Rossini, the powerful opening movement of Rachmaninoff's 2nd Piano Concerto, the fiery first movement of Chopin's First piano Concerto, Rossini's classic "opera buffa" virtuoisic aria, "Una Voce, Poco Fa", the delightful De Beriot Violin Concerto and sensational Sarasate "Introduction and Tarantella" for violin, the virtuosic Vivaldi Oboe Concerto in F major, and the beautiful elgeaic "Schelomo" Hebraic Rhapsody for 'Cello and Orchestra by Ernest Bloch.

Stephanie Tang, age 16, piano (Chopin 1)
Andrea Yamamoto, age 17, voice (Rossini - "Una Voce, poco fa")
Maya Masaoka, age 8, violin (Sarasate "Introduction and Tarantella")
Kevin Miura, age 8, violin (de Beriot "Concerto No. 9")
Gaia Saetermoe-Howard, age 12, oboe (Vivaldi "Concerto in F major")

The West Covina Symphoy Orchestra returned to the musical scene just over 2 years ago after a lengthy absence of about 20 years.  In spite of challenging times, the symphony triumphed, continuing to grow.. The orchestra is again presenting a complete season of full orchestra concerts, world-class chamber music, holiday concerts & special events. Recent highlights include the "East Meets West" concert,  the LA County Fair performance the recent all Brahms and Classical Classics concerts. The educational outreach program, is in full swing, the WCSO Music Academy is well underway, as is the orchestra's "Young Artists Concerto Competition".  After years of desolation, the East San Gabriel Valley once again has a fully functioning Community Symphony Orchestra. Now the orchestra joins forces with CSU Dominguez Hills, to bring more music to more people. Long live the arts!
