June 8, 2011 - PRLog -- Many people wonder, “Where do bed bugs come from?” With this guide from Allergy Luxe, you can finally know where do bed bugs come from, and what to do if you have them.
Bed bugs live all over the world and can come from many sources. The most common way to get bed bugs in your home is from them hitching a ride on luggage from an infected place; a hotel, hostel, or home that has bed bugs. Visitors to your home can also bring them in in the same way. You can also get bed bugs from them hitchhiking in on pets, or even, although it is rare, bed bugs simply walking in to your house. Where bed bugs don’t come from are dirty or cluttered houses. Although theoretically it is easier for them to hide in a messy home, bed bugs can almost always find somewhere to hide and don’t discriminate based on hygiene.

If you have bed bugs, you will probably first notice waking up with bites very similar to mosquito bites. Possible differences are that bed bugs are more likely to bite your face and neck than arms and legs, while mosquitoes are the opposite. Bed bugs also like to feed in rows as they have to feed from several spots and don’t fly to another place on the body to do so. Of course, these differences vary significantly case to case and aren’t enough to diagnose bed bugs on their own. If you have bites and are reasonably sure that they weren’t caused by mosquitoes, you may want to inspect your home for bed bugs. The first place you will want to check is your mattress. Run your fingers along all the seams as that is their favorite place to hide. You will then want to inspect the box spring, bed frame, and headboard. It is also a good idea to check any lose floorboards/molding or nearby curtains. What you will be looking for is translucent brown molts that they leave behind when they grow, tiny black fecal stains, and on your sheets, small blood spots from their feedings. You might even find the bugs themselves; they are roughly the shape and size of apple seeds.

If you find bed bugs, make sure to get treatment from a licensed professional. Missing just a few bed bugs means they will continue to feed and reproduce, and you will be back where you started. Don’t risk that, do it right the first time.
