June 8, 2011 - PRLog -- So when Pasquill, leading manufacturer and supplier of engineered timber solutions, was appointed to supply the engineered timber solutions for a domestic extension in Scotland, they jumped at the chance to showcase Glulam’s beauty and versatility in a residential setting.

Designed by Ian Ramsden Architectural Services and built by R Morrison & Son, the aim of this residential extension was to provide the owners with space for their home cinema and library. Work completed on time and in budget this year.

Pasquill and main contractor R Morrison & Son have previously worked together on several projects and owner Roddy Morrison has always been very happy with the service he’s received. He commented: “I’ve worked well with Pasquill in the past and their proactive attitude to client service has meant they can always supply the solutions I need, when I need them.  This build was no exception.”

Due to the size of the building and the supporting frame required, the architect had specified Glulam portal frames and attic roof trusses.  Pasquill was able to source the specialist Glulam frames, working closely with the manufacturer, the architect and the end user throughout the design process to meet the project’s engineered timber requirements.

Located on the shores of Loch Long in the Scottish Highlands, the extension to this property not only tested Pasquill’s sourcing ability, but also its ability to deliver to remote parts of the UK. Supplying four attic trusses weighing 118kg each and spanning 7.4 metres and four portal frames down small, winding roads was no easy task. However, Pasquill’s experienced Scottish delivery team was on hand to ensure everything went smoothly.

Stuart McKill, managing director of Pasquill said: “Although the job was quite small it was unusual because it was a residential property rather than a commercial one.  However, I do think it is a great example of how versatile Glulam is and what an impact it can have, whether in a large commercial building or a domestic environment.  The interior of this property with its striking Glulam frame highlights the strength and natural beauty of this engineered timber product, perfectly complementing the stunning views across Loch Long.”

Roddy concluded: “The client is incredibly pleased with the final result. They love the fact that the Glulam frame has been left exposed, leaving them with an open space that is warm and inviting.”
