Follow on Google News | Marion Descamps Makes Art Meet Drama at Agora GalleryMarion Descamps is a contemporary artist whose work is based on the encounter of two arts – drama and painting. She generally focuses on the theme of women – suffering, choices, dreams.
By: Agora Gallery About the Artist Marion Descamps’ acrylic on canvas paintings possess a startling combination of illusion and opacity that is uncharacteristic of the acrylic medium yet which points to unusual and exciting possibilities inherent within it. Her smooth and swift multiple overlays provide a shimmering, multifarious finish, imbuing the canvas with a powerful emotionality and luminous depth. Tasteful female figuration and streams of fluid color emerge in formations in the likeness of goddess, warrior, lover, seductress and child. “I understand Gauguin who chooses his colors as musical notes,” remarks the artist whose brush tip flows with the effluvium of our collective sufferings, strivings, memories and lucid dreams. Functioning as a sort of archetypal portraiture, Descamps’ recent series of mid-size works features subjects whose ‘skins’ suggest a universal landscape of desire, longing, the will to possession and the troubling Self/Other dichotomy of our contemporary aesthetic milieu. Marion Descamps currently lives and works in Paris. She studied Art at the Ecole Florent.
