LED Solid-State Lighting (SSL) Consumption in Australia Market Forecast

   According to the study report – In 2011, the Parabolic aluminized reflector (PAR) – type of LED lamps hold 28.7 percent of the relative market share, followed closely by the general service/globe lamp category, which includes the conventional general service/decorative consumer-level bulbs (lamps); and then followed by Multifaceted reflector (MR) Compatible lamps, street lighting and finally the linear/tube lamp product category. However, lamps used in streetlights (and parking-lot, similar parks/campus) are forecast for rapid growth during the 2010-2020 time-span covered by the ElectroniCast study, commanding the lead in market share versus other lamp-types by the year 2013.
   
   “Test-beds of LED-based lighting for streets, parking lots, parks and campuses are proving that to be a huge success in programs in Australia; therefore, we are forecasting a very steep ramp-up of the use of LED-based streetlights, growing at 119%, in terms of consumption value, from 2010-2015,” said Stephen Montgomery, president – International Business at ElectroniCast Consultants.
   
   Currently, the Commercial/Industrial sector is leading in overall consumption of LED-based lighting in Australia.  The Commercial/Industrial sector is forecast for over 20% annual growth through the year 2020 in Australia.  The Residential and non-specific end-user segment is forecast for double-digit annual growth but more moderate consumption value growth.
   
   The Government end-user group is forecast for annual growth of 114% over the next few years, driven by not only in the streetlight category but also linear (tube) lamps and multifaceted reflector (MR) lamps used in office and other government-controlled facilities, according to the ElectroniCast study.
