I Can See Clearly Now with Egemin AGVs

June 7, 2011 - PRLog -- HOLLAND, MICHIGAN – Egemin’s Packmobile Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) carries over 500,000 prescription eyeglasses annually. In 2010, Precision Optical Group Labs (P.O.G.), located in Creston, Iowa, purchased the Packmobile AGV to deliver optical trays to all areas of production. The need for automated robotic transportation became necessary when growth required P.O.G. to purchase an adjacent building to their existing manufacturing facility. The challenge was connecting the two facilities (one was on a hill) and deciding how to convey production optical trays between them. The solution was building a link way and installing a driverless robotic delivery vehicle outfitted with Metro shelving and dividers used for transporting hundreds of optical trays at a time. “The Packmobile eliminated the need for manual movement by employees or expensive rigid conveyor to transport optical trays,” said Robert Moskin, Vice President National Sales, Egemin. “The Packmobile travels on a 6% ramp that leads up to the new building. The AGV safely travels up and down the ramp 12-hours per day.”

The Packmobile AGV was outfitted with a ramp kit that incorporates an automatic braking system for safe travel and stopping on ramps. The Packmobile follows a 1-inch wide ultraviolet path giving it flexibility to traverse narrow pathways, stop at several delivery areas and end its route in the finishing department. “It’s like having an invisible conveyor system,” states Moskin.
