June 6, 2011 - PRLog -- New search data from the UK’s leading discount and voucher code website has found that searches for gym membership discounts on-site are 72% lower than the January - June 2010 period. In contrast, searches on the discount site for dieting pills are up by 55% compared to the same time period last year.

The search data, from www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, has shown that the popularity of slimming pills has been on a steady increase since January 2011; with site users trawling the website for discounts on prescription diet pills such as Reductil and over the counter drugs including, Ali, more so than any other year.

Along with diet aid pills, the MyVoucherCodes website has also seen a 14% increase during May 2011 in searches for cellulite creams, compared to May 2010. Furthermore, the searches for cellulite cream have increased this year by 27%, when compared to the first six months of 2010.

Further data analysis has shown that searches for gym memberships on the website have decreased throughout the first six months of 2011 by 72%, when compared to searches between January – June 2010.

As well as gym memberships, searches for fitness equipment are slowly declining compared to the January – June period of 2010; with site analysis showing that searches are decreasing monthly. For example, January 2011 searches had decreased by 8% when compared to the same time in 2010, and a further 12% in May 2011 compared to the previous year.

Mark Pearson, Chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, said the following about the search statistics from the site:

“It was really interesting to discover that searches on the site are drastically decreasing for gym memberships and gym equipment. The fact that searches for diet pills are increasing shows that although the nation is aware that there is a weight issue, people are not yet prepared to go through the more traditional method of decreasing calorie intake and increasing exercise.”

He continued:

“Searches on the site continuously fluctuate, however it is rare for searches to continue to decrease or increase over a six month period. I feel confident that searches for exercise equipment and gym memberships will return to being popular searches, perhaps when the indulgences of summer holidays start to take a toll!”
