June 6, 2011 - PRLog -- Free museum and Welcome Center greet visitors

Johns Creek, Georgia –This August 8 to 14, the verdant beauty of Johns Creek will appear slightly more manicured at The 93rd Annual Professional Golf Association (PGA Championship). The PGA Championship annually features the strongest field in all of golf. The Championship tees off about 40 minutes north of Atlanta at the Atlanta Athletic Club. The nation’s top golfers will gather on the greens with one goal in mind: to win the coveted Wanamaker Trophy, an elusive achievement bestowed upon only 63 golfers despite the PGA’s 92-year history. You can be there in person to watch the first swing of the day loft a ball hundreds of yards down the Diamond zoysia-enrobed fairway.

Free PGA Championship History Exhibit and Johns Creek Welcome Center
In tandem with the PGA tournament will be the PGA Championship History Exhibit and accompanying Johns Creek Welcome Center. Open from June 7 through the end of the Championship, the exhibit, which tracks the event’s history from the first PGA Championship in 1916 through 2010, will feature memorabilia from previous tournaments and an area for children, including the activity, “Eagles and Birdies,” sponsored by Autrey Mill Nature Preserve and Heritage Center. Visitors to the exhibit will have a chance to register to win tickets to the tournament.

The pièce de résistance of the exhibit is the Wanamaker trophy, which will be on display on certain Saturdays.  Check http://www.JohnsCreekCVB.com for dates. The famous trophy honors department store owner Rodman Wanamaker, who foresaw the monetary potential of a professional golfers association. It was his decision in 1916 to gather leading golfers for a luncheon that spawned the formation of The PGA of America.

Kids free on PGA Championship Grounds
Round up the family and make Johns Creek home base for this history-making sporting event. Got kiddos? The PGA Championship continues its beloved tradition of allowing up to four juniors, 17 and under, free access to Championship Grounds with an accompanying ticketed adult. Two hotels, the Hilton Garden Inn Johns Creek and the Hyatt Place Johns Creek, offer affordable, upscale accommodations and close proximity to the course.  Both hotels will provide free shuttle service to the tournament for their guests.

Between rounds, fill your bags with goodies from shopping destinations and satisfy appetites with dining options – both as plentiful as the flower-adorned street corners that are a hallmark of this family-friendly city and provide opportunities for entertainment beyond the golf course. Extend your Johns Creek stay beyond the tournament and take advantage of the city’s close proximity to Atlanta and its many attractions, including the Georgia Aquarium, Atlanta Braves, CNN Center, Cyclorama, Atlanta Zoo, MLK Center, Fox Theatre and more.

Info
Several ticket packages for the Championship are available at a variety of price points, ranging from $25 for admission to Monday’s practice round to $550 for a week-long Wanamaker Club ticket. Junior tickets must be picked up on-site at the Will Call Office at the Championship main entrance on the day of admission. All ticket packages, other than junior tickets, may be reserved and purchased by calling the PGA Ticketing Center at 1-800-PGA-GOLF (742-4653) or on-line at http://www.PGA2011.com.
