The evening began with Barnegat High School student Kimberly Pepenella playing piano during the cocktail reception. The evening's guests were treated to a night inspired by popular resturants of a by gone era including Bookbinders, The Brown Derby, Chasens and The Stork Club. The night featured a silent auction packed with with gift baskets, certificates and one of a kind items representing local businesses and artists as well as an exciting live auction that included personal chef dinner parties and landscaping packages. The highlight of the evening was the multi course dinner prepared by chefs representing local restaurants who donated their time and talent to help support the seven local food banks in the region which include the Barnegat Food Pantry, Lacey Food Bank, Ocean Community Church Food Ministry, St Francis Food Pantry, Ken's Kitchen of St Mary's Church, St Stephen's Episcopal Church Food Pantry and the Tuckerton Area Inter-Church Food pantry. A representative of each pantry will be the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce's guest at their July membership luncheon held Tuesday July 12 beginning at noon at the Holiday Inn Manahawkin. Our business community will have an opportunity to thank the food pantries for their efforts in fighting hunger and poverty. The Taste Committee will also present symbolic checks representing the $10,000 checks that were sent to the pantires. All business people ar invited to attend, the luncheon fee is $20.
