Aloha International Piano Festival Opens June 11

June 1, 2011 - PRLog -- The Aloha International Piano Festival (AIPF) opens June 11, 2011 at the Hawaii Convention Center and features a rare line-up of concert pianists, free events and dazzling concert performances.

Beginning with the Aloha International Piano Competition on June 11 and continuing through Saturday, June 18, music lovers have the opportunity to experience the artistry of world-renowned concert pianists Jon Nakamatsu, Sara Davis Buechner, Lisa Nakamichi, Noriko Uenaka, Sean Botkin, John Bayless and Norman Krieger, in affordably-priced or free events at the annual music festival.

AIPF is also pleased to announce the addition of a new free event: A recital featuring the winners of the 2011 Aloha International Piano Competition at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, June 13. The Winners Concert is the third of three free events including Pianomania ENCORE! - a family-friendly piano extravaganza at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 12. Admission is free and no tickets are required.

Classical music concerts - which have become rare events in Hawaii - take center stage at AIPF and include a Festival Finale concert featuring all guest artists. Tickets are on sale now for all ticketed events, including masterclasses, at www.alohapianofestival.com. In keeping with Festival tradition, student tickets are always $5.

Music lovers of all ages will enjoy this FREE concert featuring ensembles of up to 10 pianists performing together on five pianos – with selections conducted by Sara Davis Buechner. Plus, concertgoers will experience the Hawaii premiere of a beautiful new work by American composer John Bayless, who will also be in attendance. No tickets required!

Acclaimed pianist Norman Krieger – a favorite with local audiences – returns to teach a fascinating masterclass. Both teachers and students of all instruments are strongly encouraged to observe as the “master” instructs students. Observing a masterclass can be a transformative experience – even if you can’t play a note!

World-renowned pianist and recording artist Sara Davis Buechner promises to delight concertgoers with an eclectic program featuring works by Haydn, von Weber, Turina and Gershwin.

Masterclass with John Bayless

Don’t miss the exceptional opportunity to experience the insights provided in this intimate masterclass with celebrated composer, pianist and recording artist John Bayless. Conversations with Jon Nakamatsu

Winner of the Tenth Van Cliburn Piano Competition, Nakamatsu will share career insights into life as a professional concert pianist, while also answering questions from the public and sharing a masterclass with two “star” students.

Aloha International Piano Festival Concert Celebration
Admission: Adults $25, Students $5
The thrilling Festival finale features pianists Jon Nakamatsu, Lisa Nakamichi, Norman Krieger, Sean Botkin, Norika Uenaka, John Bayless and Sara Davis Buechner, plus violinist Ignace Jang, clarinetist Scott Anderson and special guest musicians from the Hawaii Youth Symphony.
