June 1, 2011 - PRLog -- The three UK finalists from the University of Nottingham, who were chosen at this year’s Ecobuild Exhibition, travelled to Prague to present their designs and scale models of a tower to be located in the Greenwich South district of Lower Manhattan, New York to an expert panel of judges, which included Professor Marvin J. Malecha, dean of the college of design at North Carolina State University, Professor Jan Tywoniak, University CVUT- Prague and Jean-Baptise Rieunier, Saint-Gobain Isover Research.

The building needed to encompass Isover Multi-Comfort House principles and Passive House performance levels to create a sustainable, multi-use building. After being named finalists in the UK heat, they worked tirelessly on their designs, honing them to ensure they met all the requirements according to the Passive House Planning Package (PHPP) and had a strong understanding of the Isover insulation products and systems available to improve the building’s performance and aesthetics.

The overall winning design of the competition was produced by Marian Lucký from Slovakia. The judges decided the design, aptly named, ‘Tower’ encapsulated the principles of the Multi-Comfort House concept, creating a building that was visually striking as well as sustainable.

Stacey Davis, marketing director for Saint-Gobain Isover said: “We are delighted that Green Canyon team from the UK was placed second overall. This great achievement is testament to the hard work of the team from the University of Nottingham as the standard of this year’s competition was very high.

“In total 270 teams from around the world entered the competition. I think this demonstrates how important sustainable design is and this is why we are already working hard on next year’s competition with the brief being announced in the next couple of weeks.”
