May 31, 2011 - PRLog -- SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA – Local businesses are invited to the “Happy Businesses Grow” workshop to learn how to increase their bottom line by “being happy.”  The workshop will take place on June 9 at Cuesta College and will remind participants that keeping a positive attitude can make all the difference in professional relationships and personal success.

Six successful, local entrepreneurs will be speaking about using social media to create buzz, create long-term, loyal customers and employees, as well as discussing why positive attitude is critical to a business’ success.  The speakers include Ellen Curtis of Whizbang, Tina Takaya of Opal Restaurant and Bar, Jean Steel of Happy People Win, Diane Auten of Competent Communications and Glenn Hoving of AGP & Associates.

“This is going to be great for small businesses.  People want more than money from a job.  If you improve company morale, you increase productivity, reduce absenteeism and reduce turnover.  It is more expensive to keep hiring.  If employees are happy, they will stay,” said Jean Steel, president of Happy People Win and creator of the workshop.

With the down economy, many businesses are experiencing a lull in sales and decreased company morale.  It is hard to keep a positive attitude, but Steel states that doing so can make a difference in both.

Being positive on social media channels can also affect a company or person’s relationships with customers and employees.  HubSpot’s Dan Zarella, a social media scientist,  illustrated how increasing the number of negative remarks reduces the number of followers.  The study was based on an analysis of 100,000 accounts.

“ Social media is a great way to reach out to your customer base and potential customers.  It’s social, so it has to be fun.  If it wasn’t, it would be antisocial,” said Ellen Curtis, owner and creative commander of Whizbang.
