Brief History of Mahindra & Mahindra

May 31, 2011 - PRLog -- Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) is known to have its origin etched in the rich heritage of India. It is one such entity that holds the tag of being the microcosm of India as it was known to be established around the same time when India was born. India as a country and Mahindra as a company shared the experience of unavoidable troughs and challenging moments. Both also shared the same desire to attain success, growth, and global recognition. With this desire, they moved on a continuous path overcoming obstacles and fighting the storm blocking the way.

The journey of Mahindra & Mahindra began with the burning desire of K.C. Mahindra to manufacture a strong and sturdy Jeep for the Indian roads. The vision was inspired by Barney Roos, the inventor of general purpose vehicle in the United States of America. When K.C. Mahindra first visited USA as Chairman of the Indian Supply Mission, he got moved by the wonderful introduction of Barney that displayed its invincibility on the battlefields of World War II. The same idea and concept was then brought to India to deliver a rugged vehicle for rough and rugged terrains of India.

The thought and the idea was soon transformed to paper and then to the entire machinery process. The Mahindra brothers associated themselves with Ghulam Mohammed on October 2nd, 1945, to set up a franchise for assembling jeeps from Willys, USA. The franchisee was baptized as Mahindra & Mohammed but uncertainty in the air and a major setback quivered their proposed plan. At a time when India got independence in the year 1947, Mahindra & Mohammed experienced dark clouds hovering over because the two names flooded with aspirations had to now depart. Unfortunately, Gulam Mohammed moved to Pakistan but with courage and inspiration, Mahindra continued on its path. The franchise was then named as Mahindra & Mahindra.

Since then, the company has never looked back and has continuously been on the path of global recognition. The major introductions from Mahindra are Bolero, Maxx, Scorpio, and Xylo, all delivering excellent driving performance on both on-road and off-road conditions. With these powerful and sporty cars, the brand has evolved into a premium SUV and MUV manufacturer in the Indian car market.

Even today, M&M is moving on and on with dedicated efforts, innovative ideas, and motivated spirit. The only desire is to create substantial number of milestones in the continued journey towards its destined goals.
