Every year since the program initiated in 2000, General Motors has recognized dealers for their achievements. The program has been held off for two years as GM worked its way back from bankruptcy, but as the company gains sustainability and retakes its competitive edge, GM wanted to continue its tradition.
“We are pleased to bring back the Dealer of the Year program after suspending it for two years,” said GM Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson at the ceremony. “This is another sign of our improving health. It’s great to be able to recognize our dealers’ achievements again since they play such a huge role in our success.”
There were 7,000 dealers that were considered for the awards, which were given to Michigan Chevrolet dealers and other GM dealerships across the county. Only 106 were awarded. The awards included:
• 50 Chevrolet dealers
• 16 Buick dealers
• 16 GMC dealers
• 20 Cadillac dealers
Of the winners of the 2006 Jack Smith Leadership Award, so named after the retired GM Chairman and Chief Executive Officer and founder of the honorary program, 10 of the awards went to dealerships in Michigan. There were three Michigan Chevrolet dealerships, three GMC dealers, two Buick and two Cadillac from Michigan.
“This is an accomplishment reserved for only a select few outstanding Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac dealerships and is a symbol of exceptional performance in delivering superior customer service while consistently growing sales,” said Mark Reuss, President of GM North America, during his speech at the ceremony.
General Motors plans on continuing to share the success of its dealerships as the company tracks its new products through dealer sales and customer satisfaction.
