Green Business Certification Comes to Texas

Some will argue that the Green movement has not had the impact in the middle of the country that is being felt on either of the American coasts. Such is the nature of things, but it must be added that the heartland is more organic and natural anyway

May 31, 2011 - PRLog -- Some will argue that the Green movement has not had the impact in the middle of the country that is being felt on either of the American coasts.  Such is the nature of things, but it must be added that the heartland is probably more organic and natural anyway.  Texas is a great combination of traditional and progress business that has realized the value of building business with an eye to the future.

Mark Floyd is the regional director for the Green Business League in Texas, and has his office in the Dallas area.  Mark comes to the job with a wealth of knowledge and a great deal of drive.  He is an entrepreneur, a adjunct professor, and a very committed environmentalist.

“Credibility is an important issue.” Mark points out.  “Right now, nearly anything goes, and a standard of Green business excellence is needed.  LEED and ISO are great programs, but few businesses can afford the price tag or qualify under these systems.  The Green Business League was the right choice.  This is one of the most transparent and credible systems in the country, and the fact that every Green business certification is audited and proven was equally important.”

The Green Path program is perhaps one of the most exciting and powerful Green business program ever.  Any company can go to The Green Path and start doing a self-assessment.  Points are automatically calculated, and when the points are sufficient; the customer can be audited for a GBL Green business certification.  There is no greenwashing in a system like this, and other Green companies can rely on the fact that their supplier and vendors have an authentically Green business certification.

“I have a big vision for Texas.” Mark states.  “We are a people with a big heart and hard-working spirit.  If Green is the right way to run a business, they will step up.  All they need is the right way to get it done.”  Mark encourages companies to start by training a Certified Sustainability Officer (CSO) that will act as an in-house Green officer.  This is in conformity with EO #13514, the sustainability officer acts like a Green CIO.  Our program will train these CSO’s and support them in their task.  In the end, every company with a CSO will get a tailored sustainability plan at a fraction of the cost that would come from a consulting firm.

Companies seeking to install a Green and sustainable program can contact Green Business Professionals.  The process starts with a baseline assessment to discover the best path to a Green operation.  When possible, a CSO will be developed within the company, and a sustainability plan developed.  With a modest effort, any company can reach the silver level of Green business certification.
