The idea was inspired in 2008 when she attended a 4-day, outdoor, music festival with husband, Chris King. According to Carrie, “I was complaining about using the port-a-potties at night when we started questioning why they didn’t have lights.” What began as a question, led to more serious conversation, and eventually turned into a two-and-a-half year project for the couple.
“We did our homework first, wanting to be sure it was something the industry would actually use, and we found out it was.” Carrie adds that ‘offering lights in port-a-potties’

Acknowledging she could likely manufacture her lights cheaper overseas, Carrie explains that supporting American industry is very important to Aglow Systems. With the electronics sourced from around the US, Firefly Solar Lights are built in Knoxville, Tennessee, where the couple currently resides.
