May 31, 2011 - PRLog -- Biometric Signature ID, Inc. (BSI) announced today that the patented BioSig-ID™ signature gesture biometric technology for identity authentication and the uSignOnline™ electronic signature application were selected by the online distance education consortium, EduKan, for use this Fall 2011 to verify student identity online. It is the goal to not only be in compliance with regulations regarding authentication of their online student population but to manage costs to keep fees down to students. BSI is the only software company with this patented technology that exceeds NIST requirements in the $12.6B Identity and Access Management (IAM) authentication market.

EduKan has been is seeing an average of 15% growth the past few years due to the selection of courses offered and the value and convenience of online education growing in popularity. A recent report from the research firm, Ambient Insight, predicts that by 2015 there will be 25 million post-secondary students in the US taking classes online and that about 4.1 million students will be attending physical campuses. While this growth is good news for students and online colleges, there is a heavy burden to face with the management of the verification process of their students as required by the Education Act. EduKan selected BSI as a partner so they could exceed these regulatory requirements for student verification, keep administrative tasks associated with their growth to a minimum, and provide a transparent solution to students that are low-cost and easy to use while maintaining the highest level of student integrity.

“We wanted to find a solution that was transparent to our students while respecting their privacy, be available anytime, be cost-effective and maintain the highest level of student integrity.” Said Dr. Mark Sarver, CEO of EduKan. “BSI’s solution was tested in a pilot and proven to work for the faculty, administration and from the student’s perspective, making it a win-win.”

EduKan found that BSI’s Identity Management software could enable them to grow their online enrollment while keeping costs down. BSI’s software does not require any additional hardware or software downloads, can be used on any PC anywhere, anytime, does not collect personal identifying information, and tracks and reports all interactions. The cost per student for this technology is capped per student, thereby saving students money on additional examination proctoring fees, which was also a benefit for keeping the cost of education manageable for the students.

“We’re finding that more organizations realize that passwords and pins can be used by anyone and they need to focus on the identification of the “physical user”,” said Jeff Maynard, CEO, Biometric Signature ID. “Our IAM solution meets the needs of today’s online education institutions allowing them to grow and manage costs while being user-friendly and exceeding regulatory requirements.”

BSI’s premier product BioSig-ID™ is a unique biometric handwriting and gesture technology that is activated simply by using a mouse to create an online positive ID and includes their Click-ID technology designed to verify the user’s identity by clicking on specific objects in a selected image. USignOnline™ enables users to sign contracts online, thereby increasing and protecting revenue while providing proof that the user authorized the action. WinLogon™ is a new product coming in spring 2011 that only allows access by the actual user to their authenticated personal computer or other personal device control.
