Prince Announces KING as Opening Act for Final Performance

May 29, 2011 - PRLog -- International Music Icon Prince welcomes LA trio KING as opening act for final performance at the Forum.

May 29, 2011 (Los Angeles, CA) – Joining the prestigious ranks of opening acts such as Chaka Khan, Esperanza Spalding and Janelle Monae will soon be soul music trio KING for the final performance of Prince's Welcome 2 America Tour-21 Night Stand concert residency at the Forum. KING, who seemingly overnight garnered an influx of media attention via Twitter upon their debut release of The Story EP and caught the ears of artists like Erykah Badu, ?uestlove, Musiq Soulchild, Estelle and the Foreign Exchange soon after enraptured Prince, compelling him to reach out to the trio.

KING, who are comprised of Minneapolis natives and twins Paris and Amber Strother and LA's own Anita Bias began their musical journey together after cultivating their own talents in music since childhood. A brief yet extraordinary meeting connected the twins with Anita in Los Angeles where they began writing, performing and recording together, setting forward motion to the creation of what is KING. Realizing the remarkable synergy of their collaboration, the 3 young women obliged themselves to complete a short project together, purely out of love for music and the sheer desire to make an offering of music that was uplifting. In Paris’ words, “We did it for fun. We found that our writing, singing and playing styles complimented each other’s perfectly. I'd never met people who could sing to me the music that was constantly playing in my head- I knew it was something extremely special. Our goal was to simply make the music that was in our hearts and souls; we set out to create a project that was really born of the pure love we have for music and for each other. We wanted to touch people through our art, and make something that everyone could appreciate."

As 3 young women, KING, who derived their moniker from a word that connotes greatness and strength, challenge the notion of who is traditionally perceived to be in control and in power. Indicative of such control is the very fact that they are completely independent recording artists, with all of the writing and production of their material done by themselves with Anita and Amber singing and Paris heading the music production.
