Puetro Rico Aims To Become The Next Big Wedding Destination

May 29, 2011 - PRLog -- According to FOX News Latino, wedding tourism is a $16 billion a year industry. Couples are always looking for ways to make their big day memorable, and jetting off to an exotic foreign country is a surefire way to do that.

Puerto Rico is looking to enjoy a piece of that pie and has recently begun an initiative to attract engaged couples to its sparkling shores. While the Caribbean attracts nearly 30 percent of the world's total wedding market, only 7 percent of that goes to Puerto Rico. Officials hope that publicizing a new law that makes it easier for foreign couples to wed will bring more revenue to the country.

"With the new measure, Puerto Rico will experience an estimated annual growth of between 6 and 8 percent in wedding tourism celebrations," one official told the news source.

If the commonwealth wants to become a top wedding destination, it's going to have to compete with the likes of Hawaii and Paris. According to Reuters, Maui, Hawaii, and Las Vegas, Nevada, are among the most popular places in the world to get hitched.
