May 28, 2011 - PRLog -- The aim of the Pop-Up Art Shop is to showcase local talent and allow people access to quality, interesting, affordable art for their homes and offices, in a friendly, non-gallery environment.

Lucy Byrne from dot-art said, “We have always tried to encourage people to regard art as part of everyday life and make it accessible, relevant and enjoyable to all. By locating this project in a retail environment, we hope that people will feel comfortable coming in to take a look, have a chat, and perhaps take their first step into the world of art buying.”

A wide range of pieces will be on display, from traditional still life to modern abstracts and the collection has been designed to appeal to both seasoned collectors and first time buyers.

Some of the highlights of this second show include; a series of semi-abstract paintings of trees by Martin Jones, who looks for pattern and structure within apparent randomness and confusion, imposing order and emphasizing repetition of forms and shapes; new work by popular urban artist Nathan Pendlebury, evocative seacapes by South African native Andrew Kinmont and a series of light-hearted paintings of cats by Sophie Green.

Jennina O Neill Metquarter Centre Manger added, “This is the first time we have been home to a Pop-Up Art Shop and everyone is really excited about it. Lucy and the team at dot-art have put together an imaginative and compelling collection and we think it will go down a storm with Metquarter visitors.”

The Pop-Up Art Shop is situated on the upper level of the Metquarter, opposite Cafe Rouge and will be opening: Thursday 2nd June 4-7pm, Friday 3rd June 11-6pm and Saturday 4th June 11-6pm.
