May 27, 2011 - PRLog -- Litera, a Sydney-based design and creative services publisher, today released two new CDs containing archival recordings of music from the 1980s: ‘A Far Cry’ by Liverpool band A Formal Sigh, and ‘Half English’ by synthesist Mark Peters. Fans of the 1980s post-punk Liverpool music scene can now, for the first time, listen to all music recorded by Mark Peters, both solo and with the rest of A Formal Sigh.

In 1980, Mark Peters (bass guitar) and Flo Sullivan (vocals, keyboard) formed a band which was to become known as A Formal Sigh. The band members included Greg Milton (guitar), Roger Sinek (drums), and Robin Surtees (guitar). The band developed a unique style and sound which, after repeated airplay of a session recorded for the late John Peel, developed a small cult following in north-east England. John Peel is famously known to have declared himself ‘very partial’ to A Formal Sigh. Sadly, the band soon disbanded, but not without extending their recorded material to a total of 13 tracks, all of which have been collected together on this CD, ‘A Far Cry’.

The songs come from three studio sessions, two of which were recorded at SOS Studios in Liverpool. The Peel session was recorded at the BBC Maida Vale 4 studio. One other track was recorded during a band rehearsal, in Liverpool.

A few years later, Mark Peters began experimenting with sequenced electronic synthesizer music. He went on to record and produce several solo instrumental pieces. Each piece features individual instrument waveforms designed by Peters. These pieces were to be released under the title ‘Half English’, but it is only now, many years later, that the material has finally become available. Two of the pieces rework songs originally included in the repertoire of A Formal Sigh: ‘Wastelands’ and ‘We Are Looking At Walls’.

Mark Peters, who appears on both CDs said, ‘Over the many intervening years people from all over the world have asked me for recordings of A Formal Sigh. I am delighted to now be able to satisfy that demand and to release, at the same time, a CD of my solo work.’

‘A Far Cry’ is packaged with a CD booklet showing several photographs of the band. ‘Half English’ is packaged with a CD booklet containing explanatory notes for all tracks.

Both CDs may be ordered online from Amazon.com or CreateSpace.com. MP3 downloadable versions of each entire CD or individual tracks are also available from Amazon.com. Samples of all MP3 tracks may be listened to before purchase at Amazon.com.
