May 27, 2011 - PRLog -- Prince Charles has been given an honorary degree. And during his speech, the Prince of Wales talks “green” with enthusiasm asking the private sector and business leaders to take seriously the threats of environmental degradation.

An environmentalist since the 1980's, the prince has an organic brand of products of his own called Duchy Originals. As one of the organic-based companies like MyCleaningProducts that sells biodegradable cleaners, it offers sustainably-produced items.

The honorary degree was given to the 62-year-old heir of the British monarch last Monday. It was conferred by the London School of Business to recognize his commitment to his corporate duty.

During his speech, Prince Charles particularly asked the private sector to “take up its obligations in the battle against climate change and environmental degradation”. According to him, environmental crash will be far more difficult to recover from than anything humanity had ever experienced. He also beckoned business leaders to prepare their successors how to deal with the effects of climate change.

“It seems that Prince Charles is more than just a royalty. During his acceptance speech for an honorary degree given by London Business School, he proved that he is also a green celebrity.”

“The Prince of Wales spent a big part of his speech discussing about the undeniable issue of climate change. He asked private sectors to take seriously the issue of environmental degradation which according to him is “far more dramatic, and far harder to recover from, than anything we have experienced over the past few years.”

“The newly-made father-in-law of Kate Middleton also called on business leaders to get their successors ready to fight the threats of climate change. And for all of its negative effects that everybody can now feel and experience, they really should.”

“Since the 1980's, Prince Charles has already been interested with environmental issues and has been promoting his eco-friendly ideas. He later focused on organic farming and even launched his own organic brand of products called Duchy Originals.”

“While HRH Prince of Wales might have blue blood, he showed last night that there was more than a hint of green there too. The Prince threw down the gauntlet to the private sector to take up its obligations in the battle against climate change and environmental degradation.”

“The Prince, on Monday, was conferred an honorary degree by London Business School, and he spent much of his acceptance speech pleading with the private sector to take seriously the consequences of climate change and the “threat of increasing and accumulating environmental collapse.”

“The Prince stopped short of offering policy proposals but instead chose to lean on business leaders to mitigate against the risk of an environmental crash, “which will be far more dramatic, and far harder to recover from, than anything we have experienced over the past few years.”

“He called on current business leaders to equip their successors with the knowledge, skills and outlook to deal with the outcomes of climate change. He also questioned the validity of using GDP as a measure of success as it does not reflect the damage that is being done to the planet.”

Climate change is an undeniable issue and it is posing serious environmental threats. To counter its consequences, many green projects and campaigns are launched. And it's good to know that even celebrities are doing something to help.

However, everybody, in one way or another, is responsible for climate change. And so it's just right that everybody must join the cause to build a more sustainable planet.

While the big names do big green things, simple individuals can also do something. One can recycle, use green cleaning products and other organic-based items, re-use and conserve energy. Though these efforts are just small and simple, they can still help the environment.
