May 27, 2011 - PRLog -- Love Colour, an online campaign introduced by national trade body the Painting and Decorating Association (PDA) and Crown Paints, set out to find the most popular shades for interior and exterior walls, interior woodwork and external doors.
The results of the online poll are now complete. They reveal that red was the favourite colour for external doors, closely followed by blue.
Red also came in at second place as the favourite choice for interior walls, with creams and neutrals voted the nation’s favourites.
Results also showed that white was the most popular choice for interior wood – and cream the colour of choice for external walls.
Neil Ogilvie, Chief Executive Officer of the Painting and Decorating Association, based in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, said: “Red has been particularly popular in recent months and a well-painted red front door can really enhance a property.
“For interiors, creams and neutrals have for some time been a really popular choice.
“Increasingly, these shades are being introduced throughout the home, with a burst of stronger colour from a feature wall to give great impact.
“Colour of any shade can transform a home, but it’s vital that the paint is applied correctly to achieve the desired effect.
“PDA members are on hand to offer the necessary advice and craftsmanship to achieve a great result.”
The PDA has a telephone number where the public can check that a tradesperson is a bona fide member of the Association – 024 7635 3776 or visit the PDA website and use the ‘Find a Member’ search facility.

Notes To Editors
About The PDA;
The Painting and Decorating Association was established in July 2002, following a merger of the British Decorators’ Association and the Painting & Decorating Federation. The British Decorators’ Association was originally founded in 1894.
This organisation is Britain's largest trade body, dedicated to the painting and decorating trade. Members include sole traders through to large-scale national contractors employing hundreds of operatives.
The PDA is proud of its long history and high standards, and a registered member can be relied upon to do a good professional job at a fair price. The PDA represents almost 2,000 companies across the UK from sole traders to large national contractors.
Contracting a membership of the PDA helps assure peace of mind for customers. Painters and decorators are rigorously vetted before they are allowed to join the Association and have to adhere to the highest standards in health and safety practice, training and development.
