May 26, 2011 - PRLog -- A study of over 1,000 women by ShopSmart magazine revealed that half of women in the US have more than 10 pairs of shoes, with the average female owning almost double that.

But despite owning so many pairs, women typically wear just 3 shoe styles regularly, leaving the other 14 languishing at the back of the wardrobe indicating that comfort is winning over style for many.

The survey found 28 per cent feel shoes are an important part of their outfit and put a lot of thought into what they wear on their feet, and over half will notice what shoes are worn by others versus 46 per cent who indicated that they put little to no thought into their shoes.

The average U.S. woman has 17 pairs of shoes, and will make three new footwear purchases a year, with most costing just $49 each.  That said, 31 per cent admitted to spending over $100 on a single pair of shoes, it is still a small indulgence compared with a pair of  Manolo Blahniks, which can cost ten times that figure.

The study of over 1,000 women by ShopSmart also revealed that 65 per cent favoured flats, or heels under 1¼ in, with one-third displaying a "shoe-crush" for higher heels.

Just 13 per cent own more than 30 pairs of non-sport shoes, but nearly 40 per cent said that they considered themselves 'a shoe person.'

Women are even prepared to suffer for a pair of shoes they love with 59 per cent getting blisters after wearing a favourite pair, and 46 per cent suffering from foot pain.

Over a third have even had an evening ruined by uncomfortable shoes, and 24 per cent have admitted to falling over due to ill-fitting footwear.

In so many cases during these shopping events, nights out and long days at the office or out at meetings, it is clear that " heels need wheels" and a taxi can be a lifesaver (and a footsaver), said Michael Sachter, VP Marketing of #TAXI (PoundTaxi).

#TAXI (#8294) is available on almost 240 million mobile phones in the US and every mobile phone in Canada.

#TAXI connects callers to the first available taxi company or their preferred one while avoiding busy signals during peak times to make hailing a cab fast and easy. It’s available for $1.25 to $1.79 per call, depending on the wireless carrier and takes no money from taxi companies. #TAXI uses a proprietary database to identify the best cab companies to serve callers wherever they are.

ShopSmart editor, Lisa Lee Freeman, explained why women have such a love of shoes.

'No matter how much weight you gain, you can always fit into your shoes. They're friends through thick and thin. 'A lot of us go shoe shopping to cheer ourselves up,' she added.
