Check your home security system
Find flaws in your security system before the criminals do. You might discover weaknesses that you didn’t even think about.

Change locks and other protective measures
If you’ve recently moved into a new home, take the time to install new locks, tumblers and other security measures. This is one of the easiest yet safest precautions one can take, as you don’t know who has access to the previous ones.

Consult with your neighbors
Communication with the neighborhood about suspicious cars or persons lurking about can lead to better home protection. If your neighborhood has experienced a lot of robberies or car break ins, talk to your local police force about forming a neighborhood watch.

Get a dog
Man’s best friend is also one of man’s best security systems. Dogs are a great burglar deterrent, as the barking will scare off whoever is trying to rob your home. Even a small, noisy dog is a great protective measure.

Don’t leave extra keys lying around
Many place a spare key under a rock or doormat, or in the mailbox, but these usual suspects are known by burglars. Placing the key in a film canister or wrapping it in some kind of substance and then burying it in an easy to remember spot is the best step to take.
