May 25, 2011 - PRLog -- Specialist healthcare and retirement living developer Larkpoint (www.larkpoint.co.uk) has completed an extra and close care housing development in Cambridgeshire that will be operated by Axiom Housing Association (www.axiomha.org.uk).

The scheme comprises 52 extra care apartments and 12 bungalows for older people with associated parking and landscaping on land off Thorney Road in Eye, near Peterborough.

The 52 apartments are available to rent through Axiom Housing Association while six bungalows are available to purchase and six are available through a shared ownership scheme.

The main building on the development offers high quality extra care accommodation as well as a wide range of amenity and communal facilities. These facilities are available not only to residents of the main building but also to residents of the bungalows.

The development incorporates sustainable building methods and energy generation technology such as timber frame construction – an efficient method of building which allows for quicker construction times.

Photovoltaic (PV) panels that produce energy from daylight are also included in the development, as well as combined heat and power generation technology.

Giles Nursey, a director of Larkpoint, commented: “The completed development looks fantastic and was a great opportunity for both Larkpoint and Axiom Housing Association to work together to provide quality extra and close care housing for older people. We are delighted to complete the construction phase on schedule and to a high standard of workmanship. This scheme contributes towards the wider local need for this type of housing. I hope to work with Axiom Housing Association again in the future.”

Alan Lewin, CEO of Axiom Housing Association, said: “This new development will allow the increasing demand for this type of housing need to be met in Eye with the provision of high quality homes and facilities backed by our established and dedicated first class customer service.”

The development was made possible following an intensive period of work by Larkpoint and Axiom Housing Association with Peterborough City Council, Peterborough Primary Care Trust and the Homes and Communities Agency to obtain planning permission and grant funding approval.
