May 24, 2011 - Princeton Montessori School’s 1st and 2nd graders know that it all adds up—garbage, that is. Instead of watching the trash pile up, only to go to a landfill, students have collected both recyclable and non-recyclable garbage at home and school. Students have placed collection boxes throughout the school-- in classrooms, lunch rooms, and faculty kitchens. Many have brought in items from home as well. After sorting the trash, which includes granola bar wrappers, chip bags and drink pouches, students will hand it over to TerraCycle, an eco-friendly corporation based in Trenton, NJ. The school will receive $0.02 per item, which the students plan to use toward plants for their community garden.

The Princeton Montessori School serves children from infancy through eighth grade. The school is located on 20 acres and is accredited by the Middle States Association and the American Montessori Society.
